"Original Extra Stout" tastes quite different; it contains only carbon dioxide, causing a more acidic taste.

Guinness original extra stout is a carbonated version of Guinness and is based on the original Guinness Stout. The name XX or Extra Stout was used to differentiate it from the Guinness Porter of the time. Guinness Original can now be purchased in bottles or cans (I'm currently drinking a can of it right now).
Under no circumstances have any dairy products within three hours of going to sleep! If you fancy something a little stronger, Guinness comes highly recommended as the hops in it can make you very sleepy.

I find Lagers & most mass beer bad for my stomach, but ale / bitter (although being heavy & a lot of volume) is much smoother and the warmth (instead of icey cold lager) may also help. Stout (Guiness etc) even more so - that is the opposite end of things to Laura's idea but worth a try.
