Why is my Unshare workbook greyed out?

If the box is uncheckable (grayed out), most likely shared workbook protection is on. To unprotect the workbook, click OK to close the Share Workbook dialog box, and then click the Unprotect Shared Workbook button on the Review tab, in the Changes group.

When you want to unlock the sheet, click the File tab on the ribbon menu. Then, click Info, click Protect and click Unprotect Sheet. If there is a password, you will be prompted to enter it. If you don't know it, contact the person who sent you the spreadsheet to request it.
Click File, then Options then here at the customize ribbon option you go to the review tab and then here at the commands list you choose to display All Commands and use look down for the share workbook command. Here it is “Share Workbook (Legacy).

Stop or change sharing
  1. Select the file or folder you want to stop sharing.
  2. Select Information.

  4. To remove a sharing link, click the X next to the link to remove it.
To unshare a document, click on the blue Share button in the open document. Then click on the little "advanced" link in the bottom right. Locate the person's name and click on the X to the far right of it. Finally, press the blue Done button to save your changes.
On the Review tab, click Unprotect Sheet (in the Changes group). Click the Protect Sheet button to Unprotect Sheet when a worksheet is protected. If prompted, enter the password to unprotect the worksheet.
To set it up, open your Excel file and head to the File menu. You'll see the “Info” category by default. Click the “Protect Workbook” button and then choose “Encrypt with Password” from the dropdown menu. Type your password and click “OK.”
If you are trying to co-author, the “locked” error can occur if the file uses a feature that is not supported by co-authoring. Ask the person who has the file open to do one or more of the following. The first thing to try is to turn off the Shared Workbook feature.
When someone else comes along and tries to open the same workbook, they are shown your username, as stored in that temp file.

Who Has the Workbook Open?
  1. Display the Excel Options dialog box.
  2. At the left side of the dialog box click General.
  3. Change the name shown in the User Name field.
  4. Click on OK.
Open Computer Management. If the User Account Control dialog box appears, confirm that the action it displays is what you want, and then click Yes. In the console tree, click System Tools, click Shared Folders, and then click Sessions. To disconnect all users, on the Action menu, click Disconnect all users.
