Why is my WD My Cloud offline?

"MyCloud is offline . . . " This simply means you cannot access the My Cloud with your device (iPhone, iPad, etc.) while running My Cloud app for some reason. It actually may not be “offline” ,so check it with your PC or other way to access the My Cloud other than with the app.

Of course you can transfer data to the My Cloud without an internet connection. The My Cloud is a Network Attached Storage (NAS) device. You cannot connect a computer to the USB port on the My Cloud.

  2. To make a folder offline, right-click on the folder and select Make Available Offline.

Can you use WD My Cloud as an external hard drive?

No you cannot reformat and use the My Cloud as a plain dumb external USB hard drive. The USB port on the My Cloud is host mode only, meaning you can only attach external USB drives too it. If you don't want to use the WD software, then don't.
Disable any software firewall applications on the PC. Turn off all network devices. Including smartTV's, the gateway/router, and if possible any wifi devices like printers, tablets and smartphones. Connect one PC directly via Ethernet wire to the same router that the WD My Cloud is connected to.
How to setup your My Cloud via computer
  1. Power up the My Cloud device.
  2. Connect the My Cloud device to a router.
  3. Go to www.mycloud.com/setup.
  4. Click “Get Started”
  5. Enter the info you would like to use for the MyCloud.com account.
  6. Check your email for the confirmation email.
  7. Create a MyCloud.com account password.
You can connect the My Cloud direct to your computer without the need for a router but one typically has to manually configure both the My Cloud and the computer's network IP addresses so they are in the same IP address subnet range. Bennor: The My Cloud DOES NOT have WiFi capability.

From a supported browser, you can use iCloud Drive at iCloud.com. On your Mac, you can go to iCloud Drive in Finder. On iOS 11 or iPadOS, you can access your files from the Files app. On iOS 9 or iOS 10, you can access them from the iCloud Drive app.
The ONLY way to connect to your computer is via your wi-fi router/switch ethernet connection. You can only see the external hard drive as another device on the network, NEVER physically connected via USB cable to the computer you wish to back up.
You must connect the My Cloud using the Ethernet port to the local network WiFi Router or local network switch/hub that has a WiFi router connected to it in order for any WiFi device or computer to access the My Cloud. The My Cloud DOES NOT have WiFi capability. You can only connect to it using wired Ethernet.
Access the Cloud
Tap Accounts and backup, and then tap Samsung Cloud. To exit, just press the Home key on your phone. You can also add a shortcut icon to your Apps screen by tapping the More options (the three vertical dots) icon in the top right corner, then tap Settings.
To download files from your Cloud Drive, follow the steps below:
  1. Log in to your Cincopa.com account.
  2. Click Remote Access at the top of the page.
  3. Just beneath the Cincopa logo at the top left of the page, click Cloud Drive.
  4. Open the folder you want to access, then click the item you want to download.
You can access Samsung Cloud storage via a browser at support.samsungcloud.com but you won't be able to add files – that can only be done via your (Android) phone or tablet.
iPhone & iPad
  1. Open Settings and tap your name.
  2. Choose iCloud.
  3. You'll now see all the apps and data you can sync and use with iCloud.
  4. Tap a toggle on the right hand side to turn on iCloud for a specific app.
  5. Toward the bottom, tap iCloud Backup to automatically make cloud backups of your iPhone or iPad.
If you've forgotten your password, enter in your Swisscom username. You'll then receive an email with an identification code. Enter the code in the corresponding field on the website. Afterwards you'll be able to create a new password.
WD My Cloud Red Light
This is generally an indicator that the NAS has failed to initialize it's internal software. In some cases it can be due to failed electronics, however most often it's due to bad hard drives.
Reset your password
  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap [your name] > Password & Security > Change Password.
  3. If you are signed into iCloud and have a passcode enabled, you will be prompted to enter the passcode for your device.
  4. Follow the onscreen steps to update your password.
Open Control Panel > User Accounts and go to the Credential Manager. Next choose Windows credentials and click on Add a Windows credential. In the Internet address field enter the name of your My Cloud device. In the Username field enter the username that you use to access My Cloud.
One can set or change the IP within the My Cloud by accessing the My Cloud Dashboard > Settings > Network > Network Services > Network Mode. Generally its better to leave the My Cloud configured for DHCP and set / assign / reserve the IP address for the My Cloud in the local network's router.
